Fix For Rage Drivers Crashing Other OpenGL Games Or Applications

UPDATE: Apparently 11.10 is now fine with the apps and games that the Rage drivers broke, so you’d want to update to the final release. Some people’s Rage turned blue, so those people should just use the atioglxx.dll from the Rage driver that works best for them (put it in Rage’s game folder): 11.10p v1, 11.10p v2, 11.10p v3.
I’m seeing reports of people saying that the Rage drivers broke all other OpenGL applications or games. No problem, there are two ways to quickly fix this for yourself.
You can go back to having 11.9 WHQL installed for the system, then simply place atioglxx.dll from the 11.10p Rage driver into Rage’s folder. (Wherever rage.exe is located, I don’t have the game.)
Or if you just want to fix 1 or 2 things while keeping the 11.10 preview installed for the system, just put atioglxx.dll from 11.9 into the game or application folder of what you want to fix. Java based games like Minecraft or Spiral Knights actually run java.exe, so you will put the dll into Java’s ‘bin’ folder instead.
I put in a couple other OpenGL driver files, atigktxx.dll and atiglpxx.dll, just in case if using the single atioglxx.dll alone did not work.
By the way, these are 32-bit dlls for 32-bit games/apps/Java. As for issues in Rage itself, I can’t do any tests since I don’t have the game. (Which would be useful since I’m a 4870×2 and I hear 4 series has the most problems at the moment.)

This Does not work for me. Even tried using all the files. I’m using Java 7 Does this make a difference?
@Scott, maybe just switch back to 11.9 whql for the whole system
you’re trying to get minecraft working? open the game & in taskmanager find out exactly where your java.exe is located, then place the 11.9 ogl dll in that folder
@kn00tcn Apparently this doesn’t work with 64bit Java? Maybe I’m missing something? I got it to work with 32bit but then Minecraft didn’t like the 32bit version for some reason.
I tried to add the atig6pxx.ddl, atig6txx.dll, and the atio6axx.dll. and got this form minecraft:
Bad video card drivers!
———————–
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

I guess its a little closer?
@Scott, maybe you just have to roll back to the system wide 11.9 WHQL release, what’s wrong with your 32bit minecraft?
There is no 32bit Minecraft. It was the 32bit Java. Yeah I’m just going to roll back I think.
Minecraft cannot use 32bit Java, on a 64bit system. And the fix you gave only works for 32bit Java. Hope you understand what I mean.
@Scott, but i’m vista64 using 32bit java… my browsers are 32bit so i never bothered getting 64bit java for the system
it should work fine, but i dont know what happens if you have both 64 & 32 bit java installed at the same time
It worked perfectly here! Thank you! I used the second option.
Worked great. Thank you!
This didn’t work for me. I’m only runnin 64bit Java. Looks like we have to wait for AMD to release new drivers?
@adsfkj, 64bit uses another file, atio6axx.dll, but another person was saying it doesnt help
i say use 32bit java or rollback to 11.9 for the system (use aticfx32.dll & atidxx32.dll for BF3 if you’re gonna play that on launch week), we’ll see what happens with 11.10 final next monday
Downloaded 11.10 v3 for BF3, and discovered that none of my autodesk and adobe programs work. Ugh. Any chance you have the x64 dlls handy, or at least show how you got them? I’d rather not roll back…
Disregard, found the .dll files, although to no avail. Guess I’ll just wait for 11.10 WHQL.
In reply to your tweet: I’m going to check tonight if I can get maya/xsi and related software working with 11.10 prev3. Appreciate the help, I’ll let you know what my findings are.
Got steam, rage installed ATI RADENO HF 5650 graphic card … but when i launch rage i get error reports for OpenGL not found or smthg…
@Rage, ‘or something’? well what exactly is the message & which drivers are you on
Thanks, it works for me.
Installed 11.10 official, put V3 from this site into RAGE folder and now RAGE is not blue anymore.
Win7 x64
Thanks kn00tcn!
